This residential landscape is surrounded by wetlands; the clients desired a clear division between backyard spaces and these wild areas just beyond. We highlighted that boundary by tracing it with a linear stormwater bio-retention system called the Greenline which stores and filters rainfall. It is also a bold line of native plants that define formal spaces made of lawn, wood, stone and pigmented concrete. Each space features a unique natural material highlighted by carefully designed lighting. Completed with Shelter Architecture and Treeline, this landscape was the winner of the 2011 MN-ASLA Honor Award.
